Thomas Howard Edward Law began his musical legacy before he was born, according to his mother, drumming on her abdomen. His first drum for Xmas came at the age of 2, then piano lessons from age 6, plus classical training on drums & percussion in school band & orchestra from age 12 - about the same age he joined his first combo, PRESERVATION UNLIMITED (funny now).
By 16, Tommy put together a double drum set for power trio cover bands. He also began playing guitars including electric bass, learning all the parts of popular tunes to teach band buddies learning his first arrangements. Acoustic covers became more popular by the time Tommy graduated high school where he acquired more riffs & runs from musical friends that attended Folk Club and went on to U.T. for college.
T.H.E. Law studied Music Theory, Composition and Jazz chords & rhythms at the University of Texas, Austin where he also got to witness the emergence of the Texas Outlaws first hand - seeing future stars including Willie Nelson jam with many players including jazz artists at the infamous Armadillo World Headquarters as well as singer/songwriters like B.W.Stevenson playing "My Maria" at a local bar. Despite the distractions,Tommy managed to graduate with Honors in Radio / TV / Film with courses in writing, lighting, audio and multi-media which he has continued to apply in his career path back in his hometown, Dallas.
His first recording studio was built in a corporate A/V firm, Specialists International, where he served as Director of Sales & Marketing. It was 1980 when he joined his first original band, STAKK AVENUE, and did early music video projects including "Working Class Girls" by Ken Mandel. A link is provided on the Texas Music Video page of this site. T.H.E. performed on keyboards as Pierre DuBois. The group became Charter Members of the Texas Music Association. This was the setting for some of his early arrangements and songs, including "Schizoid Snoid", still on Reverb Nation.com New Age indeed!
After STAKK broke apart, Mr. Law partnered with lead singer, Chris Davis, built and operated his 2nd recording studio INDEPENDENT AUDIO in Carrollton, Texas. In addition to voice-overs and custom background music produced for industrial training & promos, they were also able to record live bands and produced multi-track projects for songwriter collaborations including DAVISLADELAW and an early, unique Lead Guitar by Jackie Don Loe on an original track, Richardson Highway that Chris had written.
By 2001 after a hiatus of marriage, child raising and divorce, Tommy eventually returned to songwriting in earnest while he continued to "jam" with friends, learning and practicing new musical techniques along the way. Also 911 happened - total bummer.
In 2003, Thomas Law relocated to East Texas, jamming on keyboards, drums & guitar to classic Rock, Country & Western then joined a local band, The BOOMERS. He also performed locally on original tunes with SCOTT WALKER & the EDGE of TEXAS. Though, by 2006 Tommy decided to return to Big D and rejoined with GARY STONE & THE CLASSICS. He also hired out as a DJ & Videographer with COMPLETE MUSIC & VIDEO.
During 2008 he used his Bush Tax Stimulus to finance a home Portable Digital Recorder and put together studio #3 in Garland, Texas.
There he developed TOMMY YAMAHAMA jazz, TEXAS WESTERN, TEXAS ROCK&BLUES tunes and BANDEOKE, writing and recording many original compositions and song demos at home in his spare time. Tommy never quit his day jobs.
Studio#3 was moved to Rockwall, Texas in 2013, where Mr. Law continues to write, arrange, collaborate, record, produce and publish new works. Among the 10 albums of varying genres and artist titles published to date, this site contains 4 albums of Smooth Jazz & Soundtrack instrumentals under Tommy Yamahama,
2 albums of song demos under Texas Western by Tommy Lawman,
2 more demo albums under Texas Rock & Blues by Tommy Law & the Wolf Hounds
There's also a couple of signature albums - Retro Romantic, Americana, adult contemporary / various love themes including one outstanding vocal by Jazz for Jesus Recording Artist, Dean Mills, and then there's Friends & Lovers, a collaboration of original song demos between Thomas H.E. Law and singer/songwriter, Jewell King. Tommy played, recorded and mixed down all of the instruments on every track except where credit is given.
Meanwhile starting back in 2010, T.H.E. LAW began working with the union, IATSE Dallas Local 127 and soon thereafter Fort Worth Local 126, as a stagehand & all around A/V Tech in addition to various freelance projects around N. Texas where he is widely known as "Lawman".
Since then he has amassed an impressive list of Concerts, Corporate Events, Performing Arts and Conventions that he has contributed to for many A/V Companies, IATSE clients and Show Producers - acquiring more skills with state-of-the-art equipment and professional training along his way.
Tommy also created a YouTube channel, Texas Musical Moments, to collect Music Video projects in progress. Moreover, Mr. Law intends to continue reaching out to singers, dance talents, performers of all stripes and other producers, etc. to develop their own interpretation of his music and perhaps their own as well.
Help support him and other artists you may deem to be deserving in bringing projects to life, maybe even your own. He is ready to put his talents to work to develop quality content for digital distribution on the world wide web and beyond. There's plenty of talent yet to be professionally prepped, captured and shared. Moreover, Lawman wants to produce Rockumentaries that tell stories behind all types of Texas artists and their music.
